2:10PM

Trying to do my 2009 year review ( like I do almost every year), and this year is pretty7 hard to do, I noticed. Mostly because a lot of important things did happen, but they're not really the type of 'this month this happened', more a series of events that just led to others and stuff.
Interesting. It's a bit more philosophical or something, in a way.

Good morning. :)

Not sure what is it today, but I really had to force myself out of bed. No idea why I was so sleepy. Or why I had such nasty dreams before. Maybe it's a combination of both. Heh. Still sleepy.

And it's completely unrelated, but I really need a new job. This just isn't funny anymore..

daughter: Yeah.

me: What's the sixth commandment?

him: (thinks) But he's a LORD!

sex is not shallow
sex is probably the most profound and meaningful entanglement two people will ever know
outside of waking up out of a slowly shifting groggy haze to see the doctor who saved your life

sad so many people escape into each other to escape the shallowness of their surroundings.
we're not shallow. its the way they made this world. its what we pick up because its easier not to see, not to hear, its what seperates businessmen from angels, healers from drug dealers.

love.

4:11PM - while I'm on a South Africa Kick -- genocide of white farmers

While I'm on a South Africa kick, largely because of my friend's impending visit, I found this interesting and in my opinion, balanced article regarding the killing of white farmers in SA:

White farmers and their families arming themselves in South Africa

Although it may appear to some that the white farmers deserve their fate since they own so much of the land, and certainly the blacks suffered mightily under apartheid, it is also true that blacks lose jobs and resources when white farmers lose land. A spectacular example is the famine in nearby Zimbabwe when white farmers were killed and/or left their land from fear of genocide. Zimbabwe is essentially a communist country and like other countries under that system the equalizing of resources by forced acquisition of private property and/or genocide of owners, leads straight to hell. The class or group that held the property or resources, in this case land, are the class that understands how to work that land and make it fruitful. Everyone suffers as resources are transferred by violence to groups that do not have the skills or sometimes the desire, to keep those resources working to create wealth. I hope South Africa is not heading down the same path, but now, it does not look good.

From the NY Times:
(it is interesting and hopeful to note here how a group of African judges from other countries are ruling against these land grabs by the Zimbabwe government)

Zimbabwe’s handling of the land issue has had disastrous consequences. Since 2000, when Mr. Mugabe began encouraging the violent invasion of the country’s large, white-owned commercial farms — once the country’s largest employers — food production has collapsed, hunger has afflicted millions and the economy has never recovered.

1:01AM

So, Hanukkah is over. Too bad, it was actually a nice one. And the one week vacation was very good, too. I needed some time off. But yes, I still want it to be Purim already. But it's mostly cosplay related, not holidays related. :p

My sister's jacket is done, by the way. I have some issues with the collar that annoy me, but unfortunately, it's too late to fix. I'm still hoping for it to look better after I'll iron it a bit, but I'm not sure it'll help at this point.. I'll try to see what I can do about it tomorrow though.

New week. Hmm.

2:08PM - White Beats Red

It's been over two months since I unsuccessfully tried to donate platelets at the Red Cross. They keep calling, and I keep making appointments, but I haven't been able to make it back there. Saturday mornings are the best/easiest time for me to donate, but my Saturdays since then have been taken up by a play date for Richard, car trouble, a wedding, a birthday party, being sick, being sick again, and other things I've forgotten about. I made an appointment to donate this morning, but there's over a foot of snow on the ground with more still falling steadily. That doesn't frighten me – the road wasn't plowed yet when I woke up this morning; but at least there were no other drivers, and those are the biggest dangers around here whenever there's even a hint of snow on the ground (or even just in the forecast for the relatively-near future) – but I had to assume that the Red Cross, like almost everywhere else, would be closed; the employees huddled at home, hiding under a pile of milk cartons, bread loaves, and rolls of toilet paper. So, another appointment missed. On Tuesday, they'll give me another call and I'll make another appointment for next Saturday. It's funny that, even if I had successfully donated back in October, they'd still be pestering me now because of how much has passed since then.
